Back on the trails again!
I've been struggling with foot and ankle issues for a while, and didn't think I would be able to xc ski anymore. I am so pleased with this boot! It accommodates my bunions and also provides support for my ankle, which was reconstructed 10 years ago. This boot allow's me to get back out on my touring skis, which is my favorite thing to do in the winter. I'm a true size 10 (women's), which equates to a 42 Euro. I bought the 42, and it feels about a half size too big, however I plan to get custom orthotics next season, which I think will fill the space perfectly. If you have big wide feet like me, this is a great boot!

almost excellent
These are almost excellent. They are very well made, with a nice feel to the materials. I love that they are lightweight. They are more comfortable than the others I tried on, including the Alpina Alaska, which felt very boxy and heavy and stiff. The amount of sole flex is perfect and allows a good diagonal stride. They feel supportive, which makes quick maneuvers to avoid obstacles very confident. But I got some heal blisters on one foot (feel are slightly different). The footbed overall feels very constrained, and I have narrow feet. After experimenting with different sock combinations (thinner socks worked best), I replaced the insoles with very thin ones, and that did the trick. It's like when they designed it, they forgot to account for the volume of the insole but still put them in anyway. With the stock insoles, the pinch point that holds the heal in place was too low which caused the rubbing and the blister. With this change, they are now fine. Also a small point is that the ring near the toe that receives the hook of your gaiters is too narrow and mine can go in, but difficult to remove. My gaiters are from the 1990s so it wouldn't surprise me if modern ones have no issue.

Fabulous, except...
I am determined to make these boots work for me. The toe box and arch support are excellent. I have wide feet with a bunion and very high arches and I am pleased with the fit and comfort in this part of the boot. I don't need to use my insoles. They are warm and sturdy. So much to like. The catch is that they give me terrible blisters on the back of my heels. I've tried two different sizes (the first one one purchased at my local ski shop was too big). I've tried breaking them in slowly. I've tried thick socks. I've tried thin socks. Nothing seems to help. Now I just tape my heels with moleskin before I head out and am only lacing the lower part of the boot up to my ankle. I've only tried this twice for shorter skis and it seems OK so far. It does not compromise the function of the boot in tame terrain. Hard to say how this will impact performance in challenging conditions. The new skin on my heels is still very thin and delicate, so I am hoping this gets better as they toughen up. Overall this is a fantastic boot and I'd give it 5 stars if not for the blister issue.
