Salomon TV - We Are All Protagonists
8 runners from different running backgrounds take on the 340 miles of The Speed Project relay race from Los Angeles to Las Vegas.
Salomon is proud to unveil a new Salomon TV episode, We Are All Protagonists, a project by Tilly GW, directed by Tilly GW and Claudia Lederer. In this film, a team of eight runners, four supporters and two filmmakers take on The Speed Project, a 340-mile relay race from Los Angeles to Las Vegas. Set in the environment of an extreme physical feat, the messages taken from this film are about collective strength, the power of our differences, the necessity of challenging stereotypes and inspiring others to break society’s expectations, push boundaries and chase their own high.

THE SPEED PROJECT: 8 RUNNERS, ONE START, ONE FINISH, NO RULES
We Are All Protagonists dives into the story of Eden, Marianne, Sarah, Ocean, Helen, Meera, Esme, and Tilly, and the crew they created to run this unique race, putting one foot in front of the other a gazillion times until they get to the finish line. Featuring Shelley and Delphine as supporters, Joana as a physio, Ashley as photographer, Cassidy as the team's mentor and coach, along with filmmakers Claudia and Alicia.
“Cassidy had experience with The Speed Project and coaching women. She is inspirational, she is thoughtful,” says Tilly. “She created personalized programs for each runner, and answered any questions or fears we had, from wild dogs to night running, busy roads with fast passing cars and of course the immense distance we had to cover through a harsh environment.”
Running through nights and days, the crew shares what it means for them to run, to be a runner, to surpass oneself and always remember that you can do impressive things.
“I think you kind of lose a bit of confidence if you don’t do things that impress yourself once in a while,” explains Ocean Lewis. “I need to prove to myself that I can do some crazy stuff.”
A RUNNING ROOKIE, A UTMB FINISHER, AND EVERYONE IN BETWEEN
This female-led project, including the runners, the support crew as well as the post-production team, has been a long-time dream for Tilly, who has been running since she was a kid.
“I’ve been dreaming about this since The Speed Project started 10 years ago,” shares Tilly. “After running track for years, I became aware of all these alternative races. I found all these incredible women along the way, who changed my perspective on what running is and how it should be done. It’s that team that encouraged me and gave me this courage to pitch the project.”
To distribute the effort between the runners, they put together an outrageous spreadsheet, where the total distance was divided, and everyone would do the same number of shifts. Marianne, who finished second at the 2022 UTMB, would just keep running as people would join, and she never really wanted to stop. Ocean wanted to hit 100 km, and would run back and forth to get some extra miles in.
“We all came with different mindsets and different points of view of what running means for us,” says Eden, who started running when Tilly asked her to be part of the project.
