Main Technical North American Shoe
These shoes have been a staple in my closet for all of my trail races that take place in Canada and Northeastern American trails. I find the weight to support ratio for technical terrains is exactly what I need. The shoe also provides a bit more room in the toe box compared to the majority of Salomon shoes.

Very responsive, super comfortable
Yes, yes; as you've all heard, the sock-like design makes getting the shoe on your foot a little more involved. Personally I find this design hugs the foot and heel better when your negotiating technical terrain. Beyond that, the lace pocket is more robust than that of the sense ride 3 era.
I wore these shoes out of the box on a 10k trail race and my feet felt fresh by the time I crossed the finish line. As stated in the title, they're very responsive and incredibly comfortable. I highly reccomend these shoes if you are *already a fan of salomon trail shoes* and *looking to upgrade/need a new pair*. If you're new to trail running and looking for a pair of shoes, there are other more inexpensive options to get accustomed to the trail feel... that being said, these are a great shoe if you're diving in completely.

The outsole durability is still limited
I owned the original version of Ultra 3's and the outer lugs of the heel part of the sole were showing excessive damage after running the first 40 k. I contacted Salomon customer service before purchasing this second version specifically asking if the rubber compound had been changed to improve its durability. I have been reassured that the soles were more durable. Well, I can't say that this isn't true. The soles certainly don't have that "durability" of an eraser rubber of the v1, however, the wear is still accelerated compared to any other Salomon shoe I own or ever have owned and it must have been about 2 dozens. Picture shows the outsole wear after barely 300 km. The outer lugs are completely gone on the left shoe and close to gone on the right one. Like what's going on that this particular product requires such a soft rubber compound? My S/lab Sense 8 and 8 SG show barely any wear well past the 500 km mark (picked those just because their outsoles are red as well, or actually the heel parts may be white and black but I'm too lazy to go downstairs now to check, does not matter though, same applies to my S/lab Pulsar SG and all the other Salomon runners that I own). This is disappointing! Also, the fit of the shoe has changed a bit with the v2 toebox slightly but noticeably narrower than v1. Maybe just a consequence of less stretchy and/or thicker material that forms the top of the toe box? Not the most fortunate development for a shoe marketed for long distance running in either case.

Comfortable
Very comfortable. Not the lightest shoes but the weight is acceptable. Like all other S/Lab shoes, I minimize the use for non-race running. I went for two test runs before a 50 mile race and I didn’t have any issue on my feet. These shoes helped me set a new course record ;) Because I bought them at the last minute before the race and I didn’t want to take a chance of hurting my Talus, I didn’t put the square plastic parts of the quick lace in the little pockets. (That was an issue with Ultra Glide 2. I haven’t had the same issue with any other Salomon shoes.) Salomon’s newer models tend to fit large but these pair are true to the size.

Excellent Shoe
I bought this shoe ahead of the Spartan 50k in Killington, vt and I was not let down! They handled the 16k vert and all the mud with wase. With a pair of insoles needed due to my flat feet there couldn't have been a better shoe to have out there.

Gr8 shoe ruined
Why have they tinkered with the fit of this shoe? Waaaay too narrow now, who is this shoe aimed at? The previous version was narrow, this version is just crazy narrow and surely won't fit most male runners? Such a shame as this was a gr8 shoe for 100+ mile races.

Super durable
This is my third pair of S/LAB ULTRA 3's. I had a pair of last years and 2 pairs of this year's version. They are the best shoes I've had when considering comfort, durability and fit. I mostly run 50k's but have taken them on long ridge walks in Glacier Park, several scrambles to reach peaks and multi-day fastpacking trips through the Bob Marshall. I put 600 miles on the first 2 pairs and will likely do the same with my current pair. They never get holes, and the tread seems to last quite a while even on rocky terrain. Usually, I switch them out when the cushion gets too thin which happens around the 600-mile mark for me. I highly recommend these shoes for any distance and terrain. The only downside for me is the color.

My race shoe
These shoes are so good. Bought them for my 18 mile trail race , they feel very speedy . Also very little wobbling of my foot which felt good when running downhill aggressively. Will wear them for future races, though I like something a little softer for every day training. That said they are pretty comfy for the average foot.

Great all around shoe
Great shoe for virtually any terrain. A little bit narrow in the mid foot but all in all a solid shoe for short and long runs!

Mi zapatilla favorita!
Muy buena zapatilla, aunque se desgastan muy rápido los tacos del talón. Quizás necesitaría una suela más duradera y resistente a los desgarros de piedras afiladas.

Fantastic Shoe!
I bought the S/Lab Ultra 3 a few weeks ago, put some good kilometres on them quickly, and just ran my first 50k in them. I couldn't be happier with their fit, feel, and performance.

great shoe
Got these shoes for a trail half-marathon and so far I've got no complaints. The fit is great (note that I have narrow feet), they feel very nimble on technical terrain, and the level of cushion feels spot on--not too much not too little. The cushioning does not give a big squishy or bouncy sensation but I try to avoid that feeling for trail shoes in favor of a bit more ground feel and stability. The shoes feel lightweight to me but that's all relative to your previous shoe. They aren't easy to put on but to me that's a very minor complaint compared to everything the shoes do well.

Comfortable and light. I love them.
This have to be the best trail running shoes about there. I felt the difference soon as I tried them on. It's almost like wearing a pair of comfortable socks.
Toe protection is great , great grip on all terrain. I haven't tried them on wet surfaces yet. But I'm sure they will do well.

“Damage due to storage”
I purchased these shoes as a gift for my husband in June. Within a few months, he said they had gotten smaller to the point where he can hardly get his feet into them. Salomon denied the warranty claim stating the damages were due to storage after I advised they were “stored” in the hallway amongst our other shoes.
I don’t know how preciously the shoes need to be kept? But they are trail running shoes—and they do not seem to be hardier than a pair of canvas Keds.
He enjoyed the shoes while they lasted, but I don’t think they are worth repurchasing. There are plenty of trail shoes out there that don’t need to be handled like a silk blouse.

Extremely difficult to put on, poor design
I had to buy a claw-hook shoe horn just to get them on. Once I've got them on, they fit just fine, but these shoes don't have a tongue and are more like a thick sock stitched to rubber than a traditional shoe. Also not water resistant like Solomon 's other shoes. Poor design.

The best shoe I've ever owned.
I'm on my second pair, and may buy a load more just in case they ever get discontinued. I have done a number of ultras with them, they are light, fast, quick draining and oh so comfortable. I even wore them to run the TMB (180km, 11000m elevation) over 4 days completely self-supported and didn't have a single blister, twisted ankle or other issue.

Most comfortable
I’m on my second pair. I use mostly for back country backpacking/fast packing mostly alpine and they are the most comfortable pair of shoes I’ve used. The treads do wear faster then I’d like and different colors would be nice, but I guess I can’t have everything.

Wanted to loce
I like earlier versions of this shoe. The past 2 have been a moss for me. I had. A normal arch, low volume, narrow foot. Forefoot strike. The tongue and upper cut into the top of my feet and the treads performed poorly in mud and snow. Pity they’re so expensive and inourhcased 2 pairs.

S/LAB ULTRA 3, you're the best
I'm now onto my third pair of Ultra 3s and that's a reflection both of how much use I get from them and how much I love them. While I'm doing less trail running these days and more urban adventuring, Ultra 3s are just the most comfortable and functional shoes on the market. The sizing and fit are perfect for my feet. I look forward to putting them on and getting on the road!

Great fit. Good right out of the box.
I bought these to train and run an ultra. I've worn them for a couple runs and they fit well and were usable out of the box. They are a bit tough to get on but, worth the effort as they really feel good.

Bring back the Sense Pros!!
Ive been searching for the best replacement for the Salomon Sense Pro 4. This seems to be the closest match I’ve found. Good cushioning, nice snug fit where it needs to be on desents, but REALLY wish they would update the lugs to a 4.5-5 mm lugs. The contragrip is my favourite, but soft and wears down fast, especially if you run a lot of rock and slab. Overall good shoe. Could be better.
