The BCN Trail Races refilled on November 19, 2022 the Collserola saw of trailrunners. More than 600 runners faced the 77 km and +3000 m. of the ultra par excellence of Barcelona both by male, female and mixed relays, and alone. It was a great occasion to test both our apparel, our backpacks or our footwear. There were a crowd of runners who chose sneakers like Ultra Glide 2, Press Trail or Press Trail Pro 2 to face your challenge. Below we tell you what this race is like and what is the most suitable material to face it.

The new edition of the Barcelona Trail Races will be disputed the November 18, 2023.

An ideal race to start ultra-distance

The BCN Trail Races is a semi-urban trail race through the Collserola Natural Park with great views of Barcelona in the background. It is ideal for those who start ultra-distance because it always takes place near urban centers and consists of two large loops with a link in Santa Creu d'Olorda that allow family members and assistants to be able to be with the corridor at various times. It is also the great trail party in Barcelona, with a festive atmosphere in the aid stations and numerous teams waiting and cheering for their runners. We recommend it!

The race starts at 7 in the morning with the first lights of the day from the Velòdrom d’Horta, making it possible to almost go out without a front. Later the runners go to Santa Maria de Vallvidrera and Santa Creu d’Olorda (km 15), to make the longest stretch (17 km) to the farthest point, El Papiol. From there part of the road is retraced to return to Santa Creu d’Olorda and overcome half of the route, to pass through Vallvidrera again and return to the goal of Horta on the part of Can Coll.

An ultra very corrible and with dry and rocky terrain

The BCN Trail Races is a race a little ‘trap ’: it seems easy and very corrible because it does not have large slopes (the highest altitude is 449 meters), but it is very hard for several reasons. The main one is that it is a very rocky terrain with usually dry stone in which you have to watch and the second is that being very running, it ends up crushing the joints and muscles. Most of the route runs along trails or tracks, with some stretches of asphalt.

The ideal material for the BCN Trail Races

The material is something very personal, especially the choice of footwear, but for this race we will need a good cushioning and the ideal shoes would be Ultra Glide 2 or some Sense Ride 5. The new range Press Trail It was also widely used in the recent edition, with some faster runners betting on the Press Trail Pro 2, due to its versatility and protection in the sole with the EnergyBlade. Otherwise, not an ultra that requires a lot of mandatory material or that it is carried out in extreme conditions. If it doesn't rain, a windbreak Bonatti Cross Wind may be enough for colder moments while good 3 or 5 liter hydration backpack It will give us enough capacity to carry the gels, the whistle, the thermal blanket and other required material. A good shirt and pants will ensure an optimal experience in an ideal race for lovers of urban trail.
