Salomon athlete pads her legendary résumé by winning the 10km individual start to become USA’s first World Championship gold medalist

Salomon athlete Jessie Diggins wrote her name in the history books again, winning her first individual gold medal at the World Championships on Tuesday in the women's 10km individual start. With the win, she also became the first American Nordic skier to win an individual gold medal at the World championships.

Diggins, who has used Salomon skis and boots for her entire professional career, arrived in Planica (Slovenia) with high expectations and a clear focus on the 10km skate. After winning a medal in the team sprint with teammate Julia Kern over the weekend, all the lights were green for the glitter-faced Minnesota native.

“That was so emotional, that was amazing,” Diggins said. “I've just got to say thank you to the team. That was one of the best races of my whole life and I knew I felt good, and I was in a good shape, but you also have to have great skis and good wax, and I had everything I needed today. The team worked so hard to make this possible. I'm just so happy.”

Diggins relied on Salomon S/LAB skate skis and boots to win her world champion title; the same equipment everyday skiers can buy at their specialist ski shop.

Known to be a hard worker and a skier that leaves every ounce of energy on the track, Diggins may have delivered her career masterpiece on Tuesday in Planica .

“I was just trying to really push as hard as I could,” she said. “I was really happy about the snow because I could really work the corners, and this was the perfect course for me. There are a lot of fun downhills and I tried to just ski with a lot of joy and really attack the downhills and go as hard as I could.”

The gold medal is Diggins 6ᵗʰ career World Championships medal, and it comes 10 years after she captured her first title in the team sprint in 2013 in Val Di Fiemme.
