Invest 1% of annual revenue to educate players
Since the beginning, the Salomon brand has shared its values with those who have dedicated their lives to playing in the mountains — guides, ski instructors, ski patrollers, and others of similar professions. Often synonymous with fun moments and achievements in the sun and snow, the mountains can also be dangerous and unpredictable, surprising even the best mountain professionals. Each year, a number of professionals are victims of serious accidents that prevent them from dedicating their lives to the mountains. In other cases, they suffer such injuries that they are unable to continue their profession. It is in a spirit of reciprocity and solidarity that the Salomon Foundation was created in March of 1999, under the guidance of the Foundation de France, the Salomon family and the Salomon Society. The goal is to help mountain professionals and competitors in need.
For Salomon, supporting the Salomon Foundation is a way of affirming its solidarity with the environment and the mountain community by providing a financial assistance and moral support to the victims.
The mission of the Salomon Foundation is to facilitate the daily life and help the social and professional reintegration of riders and mountain professionals who are physically disabled as a result of an accident or a disease. The Salomon Foundation also provides support to the families of those who have passed away.
Ski or climbing instructors, mountain guides, ski patrollers, athletes in mountain sports (and athletes in parasports sections), canyoning instructors and paragliding instructors.
The Salomon Foundation is mainly financed thanks to the donations of the Salomon society, ski schools and guide companies, but also donations made by private individuals.
Financial donations are, of course, greatly appreciated, but psychological help is another, equally important aspect of the Foundation. Volunteers for the Foundation do not just investigate cases. They also follow the beneficiaries and receive in return very moving testimonials that encourage them to continue to expand their charitable work.
Salomon shares both a common interest and the overarching PLAY philosophy with the Time to Play Foundation in the United States. The foundation’s mission is to: “Enrich the lives of others through programs, public awareness outreach activities, events and learning opportunities that further the concept of enjoying life.” The foundation is not affiliated with the Salomon brand, however, we hold the common values and viewpoint.
Salomon is one of the founding members of the Outdoor Sports Valley (OSV) - the Frenche Outdoor Industry organisation that was created in 2009 - actively cooperating together with other outdoor brands in several environmental initiatives such as a common repair center for apparel and seeking alternatives to PFC for DWR treatments. In 2005, Salomon partnered with other outdoor brands in France, all of whom are members of the Outdoor Sports Valley, to establish and developp the Mont Blanc Outddor Repair Center.
This new location provides a place where outdoor brands can find skille individuals and machinery to repair outdoor products for their after-sales services, making them last longer.
The organization that runs the repair center also helps people find jobs and learn new skills that will make them more employable in the future.
Salomon actively participates in the conversations and development of the European outdoor industry. In particular, the company contributes to the group’s Sustainability working group as well as its Sustainability Advisory Council.
Salomon USA is located in Ogden, Utah, and is a member of the Outdoor Industry Association (OIA), a trade association for companies in the outdoor recreation business that provides services for manufacturers, distributors, suppliers, sales representatives and retailers in the outdoor industry. In addition, Salomon, together with Arc’teryx, is a voting member of the OIA’s sustainability working group and continues to sit on the steering committee of its chemicals management working group.
