Josh Daiek explores some new terrain in 'Scratching the Surface'

1 min read

The winter of 2019 was one for the books in the Sierra Nevada. Record snowfall in February buried the California mountain range, filling in lines that only come into play about once per decade.

When the weather finally let up for a brief moment last April, Lake Tahoe locals Josh Daiek and Will Brommelsiek knew it was time to strike. The new short film
“Scratching the Surface” documents the multi-day adventure of Daiek, a Salomon freeski athlete, and Brommelsiek as they venture farther into their backyard and explore new lines.

Daiek, who famously stomped what is believed to be the biggest road gap in history last winter when he jumped over Highway 50 near Lake Tahoe, brings more of what he has become known for over the last several years—threading big, tight lines at a really high rate of speed and making it look easy.

Daiek used the Salomon QST 106 skis with MTN bindings and S/LAB MTN boots.
