The 2024 edition of the Hardrock 100 was the theater for another win from Courtney Dauwalter. The 100-mile ultra trail race was once again conquered by Courtney, who won in a new record time of 26h11’47”, beating her own record from 2023. This placed her 4th overall. Following an impressive win at MaXi-Race in Annecy in May, Camille Bruyas finished second, placing 6th overall.

François D'Haene had to pull out of the race after mile 58 (93km) due to a virus that had been affecting him for the past 10 days.

A TEAM SPORT

In 2023, Courtney Dauwalter became the first person to win Western States, Hardrock 100 and UTMB in the same year. But she did not do it on her own.

Salomon is proud to unveil a new Salomon TV episode, A Team Sport, showcasing the journey of Courtney Dauwalter through 3 of the most iconic and challenging 100-mile trail running races. This episode is a celebration of the collective effort, love, and motivation that drive individuals to achieve incredible results by pushing through, one step at the time.

It is available to watch on Salomon TV.

Courtney Dauwalter's Ultimate Challenge

“Winning for me is not on the list of importance. Connecting with people, making shared memories: that’s what it's all about.”

PUSHING LIMITS AND BREAKING RECORDS

The summer of 2023 was a defining period for Courtney Dauwalter, as she decided to run both Western States and Hardrock 100, two 100-mile races within three weeks of each other. Despite the challenges posed by the diverse and physically demanding terrains, Courtney's determination and resilience prevailed as she established a new women’s record at both Western States in 15h29’33” and at Hardrock 100 in 26h14’08”, finishing 4th overall.

But Courtney’s journey is not one she embarked on alone. Her husband Kevin, her crew, and her friends all played pivotal roles in her success. Kevin, balancing his roles as husband and crew member, provides unwavering support and meticulous planning to ensure Courtney’s success. Their collective positivity and encouragement were instrumental, especially during the toughest moments of the races. When faced with physical exhaustion, Courtney retreats to a mental space she calls “the pain cave”, where she envisions herself putting on a hard hat, grabbing a chisel, and digging deep into the farthest corners of that cave, relentlessly pushing through the struggle.

Driven by curiosity and the desire to test her limits, she and her husband Kevin meticulously prepared for one last challenge in August 2023, only 7 weeks after running Hardrock 100: the Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc (UTMB), a 106-mile race (171 km) with a staggering 33,000 feet of elevation gain.

“She's so curious about what she can do, and she can go someplace mentally that no one else can go. I think that's her superpower.”

DISCOVER THE NEW S/LAB GENESIS LTD COURTNEY

To celebrate these amazing performances, Salomon is releasing the S/LAB Genesis LTD Courtney, saluting Courtney’s uniquely inspiring presence on trails across the globe, knee-length shorts and inimitable energy, paving the way for a new generation of trail runners and adventurers.

The S/LAB Genesis is a high-performance shoe to run comfortably over any distance. Your feet stay protected thanks to the Matryx fabric with Kevlar thread, a reinforced toe cap in the front and extra protection on the side, so you can run through rocky and technical terrain without the constant fear of that unpleasant foot-to-rock feeling.

A request from Courtney was to make the shoe more breathable. To solve this, tiny holes were added to the toe cap at the front, to improve airflow without compromising protection. The outsole features Salomon’s All-Terrain Contagrip and 4.5mm lugs with a unique two-part lug pattern that adapts to the terrain to ensure a secure grip, guiding you through a variety of conditions—whether it’s a muddy and wet trail by the river or a rocky, technical path through the mountains.

To ensure long distance comfort, the midsole features Salomon’s lightweight and responsive Energy Foam made by combining EVA and Olefin to deliver long-lasting cushion and energy return, along with a Profeel Film that filters out rocky and sharp surfaces to prevent painful surprises, and a small gaiter keeping rocks and debris out of the shoe. Paired with a heel strap for easy step-in and the Salomon quickLACE system for precise foothold, the S/LAB Genesis delivers steady comfort across even the longest distances.
